- Snorkel or scuba dive the fringing reef that encircles the island. Protected since 1979, the Bonaire National Marine Park is home to countless species of tropical fish, colourful corals and pelagic creatures like manta rays and whale sharks. Warm, crystal-clear water with little current or waves makes it easy to explore this magical underwater world.
- Explore Washington Slagbaai National Park at the north end of the island. Once the site of two land plantations — Washington and Slagbaai — that supplied salt, charcoal, aloe extract and goats to Curaçao and Europe, today the park is home to countless iguanas, goats and donkeys that thrive in the rugged, natural environment. It is also where you can climb the island's highest peak, Mount Brandaris, for a bird's-eye view of Bonaire, neighbouring Curaçao and the Caribbean Sea.
- Relax on one of the island's many sugar-sand beaches. Some appear and disappear with the tides and weather, but when they're accessible they offer some of the most pristine beach experiences anywhere in the world.
- Hike or mountain bike on winding dirt trails in the north to experience the beauty of the island. The Dos Pos Trail and Gotomeer Trail are two of the most popular.
- Look for the yellow-painted rocks on the side of the roads around the island. Many are signposts for popular dive sites, while others mark protected areas where sea birds and flamingos nest each season.
